Nature's Guardian is dedicated to helping preserve endangered species, like the elephant.
A 1990 worldwide ban on ivory trade has helped protect the elephant population
but is not enough to ensure their future. In Kenya, strong poaching controls
are showing good results as the countries elephant numbers have been increasing
by 1,000 animals per year. Kenya has burned tons of ivory in an effort to
draw attention to the temptation posed by such stockpiles -- reaffirming
its commitment to save the elephant. Kenya also wishes to draw attention
to the tremendous economic cost to the African nations posed by the ivory
ban. Conservation groups around the world have pledged assistance to those
countries bearing this economic burdon, but little has actually been done.
Kenya's Minister for Tourism and Wildlife Noah Katana Ng'ala strongly urges
"decisive action to save the elephant from extinction."
